There’s nothing stopping you from getting happier – all you have to do is change one or more of the following habits for 2018:
Intention to improve yourself
1. Dedicate time to personal growth
Before getting into 2019, try to make three resolutions – do one a day – that challenge and develop yourself. Rather than resolving to start the year well, aim to make 2018 your best yet. Go deeper into your personal development and make it a priority. Set yourself the time and effort to find the answers that are hard to uncover and more challenging to achieve.
2. Create more loving and fulfilling relationships. According to the Australian Institute of Family Studies, relationships are among the most fulfilling ways to contribute to a person’s wellbeing. When we have supportive and happy relationships in our lives, we feel more connected to others, we feel loved and appreciated and we’re happier overall. If you’re not currently in a relationship, make 2018 the year you find one. If you’re already in one, consider how to improve it for the better. If you don’t have one, ask yourself how you can change this in the New Year.
3. Spend less money
Don’t spend beyond your means in the New Year. If you want to save $50 by the end of January, take a look at your spending habits and cut back on unnecessary things or activities. Before doing this, make sure it’s something you’re committed to.
4. Eat better
In 2018, “clean eating” became a buzzword, but for many people, they don’t know how to make healthy choices. In 2018, you can start by looking at your diets, and find ways to make them more enjoyable and achievable, such as making sure you always have the best food for the best meals, or regularly eat a balanced diet with plenty of vegetables, fruit and meat.
5. Seek support
Getting support can be a great motivator in the New Year, whether it’s talking to someone you trust about your goals and how you’re feeling, joining a group or starting an exercise program, or getting more help with your mental health. If you’re already in a support network, ask them for ways you can do more in 2018.

You might also find support through “self-care” activities such as painting, exercise and going for a walk, so you’re giving yourself time to look after your body and mind.
It’s very unlikely you can make a whole year’s worth of resolutions in just one month, but there are so many things we can try to improve our lives for the better. By starting your 2018 with a positive plan, you’re setting yourself up for success.
Instead of planning on doing all of these things, decide on the things that would be most enjoyable to you, and get started today.
