How to be vulnerable with God and others:
Jesus says that when we are honest, that is when we are strongest. Even with the same weaknesses, we are better when we can discuss them openly and honestly. (This is hard, but important!) One of the greatest comforts we can have in life is to have a community of other people we can talk to. No one is alone in their issues, but to have a community of people that we can rely on when we are not able to find strength in ourselves is very important. Another example of vulnerability is to have compassion for people. Being compassionate is a gift and often has a great impact on the lives of those we are compassionate towards. One person can make a difference. When we are compassionate with others, it is a gift to them and often has an impact on them that is positive. It is hard, but not impossible to be compassionate.
Consider the following scripture:
Romans 12:15 – 19
15 For this reason I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 16 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. 17And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 18since human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
19 Take a moment and reflect on this truth: God himself has achieved what you are striving for. So why are you working so hard to achieve this goal on your own?
JBU: Who have been in your life who has made you feel emotionally vulnerable and vulnerable yourself?
JL: My boyfriend and I both started to work through past hurts and through this, were able to forgive each other and start to heal each other. Our relationship went from being a friendship to a serious, life changing relationship. But one thing that helped was knowing that we were completely vulnerable with each other and that we were safe. It took a lot of work on both our parts and not always easy, but it was one of the greatest gifts we have been able to give each other and one that we are still giving each other every day.
